We are looking for someone to #JoinUs as a Firearms Enquiry Officer in our Firearms and Explosive Licensing Department. Could you be who we are looking for?  

About the team/Department you will be joining:  

The Firearms and Explosives Licensing Team are responsible for administering licensing processes, conducting thorough applicant assessments, and ensuring compliance with legislation to safeguard public safety in relation to firearms and explosives 

The team operates Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00, following a hybrid working model that combines on-site duties at Police Headquarters with remote working

About the role and your key responsibilities:  

This role involves conducting thorough enquiries and investigative work to determine the suitability of individuals applying for firearm, shotgun, and explosives certificates in compliance with the Firearms Act 1968 and Explosives Regulations 2014.

Your key responsibilities include: 

 

  • Undertake vetting of applicants, premises, weapons, and security arrangements to ensure compliance and public safety
  • Conduct comprehensive enquiries and investigations to assess the suitability of applicants for firearm, shotgun, and explosives certificates in line with the Firearms Act 1968 and Explosives Regulations 2014.
  • Inspect Registered Firearms Dealers and shooting clubs, offering advice and taking appropriate action
  • Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to support effective firearms licensing and regulatory compliance.

 What skills and experience do we need you to bring to the role:  

 

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Previous investigative experience with the ability to evaluate and interpret findings.
  • Ability to prepare and present complex reports clearly and accurately.
  • Current full valid driving licence.

The successful Candidate must be willing to undergo vetting to MV/SC Vetting.
