South Wales Police brings together thousands of people with the same aim – to keep South Wales safe.

We want to be the best at understanding and responding to our community’s needs. To do this we need the very best candidates from a wide range of backgrounds to become part of our policing family.

The South Wales Police Internship gives you the opportunity to put your academic knowledge to the test in a practical and professional setting where you will gain valuable work experience and training. You can be confident that throughout your internship you will be supported by an expert team who will encourage you to fulfil your potential.

Becoming part of #TeamSWP will offer you a unique learning experience where you will contribute to real life projects in a complex and diverse environment. We value individuality and encourage new ideas and creativity that will contribute to our success as a force and make a difference to society.

The Digital Services Department serves both Gwent and South Wales Police and is charged with improving our services through the application of technology. Our team is responsible for making the process of policing more efficient, effective, and better through the introduction of digital technology. This busy department covers all the main digital programmes in the force from Facial Recognition Technology to HR Systems, Digital Interviews and Fleet Telematics to name but a few.

The EServices Intern placement is based in our in-house Research and Development team and will provide the opportunity for applicants to be involved in all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle for a series of real life challenges facing the South Wales and Gwent forces.

During the 12 months duration, applicants can expect to have chance to work with internal customers and stakeholders on designing specifications, write and test code, develop both web and mobile applications for internal and public deployment, support the management of work and understand what is involved in working in and managing the team. The team primarily rely on the Microsoft stack to develop solutions (C#, .Net Core, Xamarin, SQL server, Azure).

The role is primarily technical, but applicants will also be expected to undertake some support work whilst upskilling in more technical areas for which support, and training are available. This is a fantastic opportunity to get an understanding of how a large public organisation works, learn on the job skills, and get experience of providing solutions that make a difference.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates are currently underrepresented within the Force, we would particularly welcome applications from ethnically diverse candidates.
