Initial Police Training Course Designer

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Course Designer to develop high‑quality learning programmes for Student Officers across Initial Police Training, including the Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP), PCSO pathways, and Special Constable training. Working closely with subject matter experts and colleagues in Learning & Development, you will design engaging, accurate, and operationally relevant training content that aligns with College of Policing requirements and supports new officers as they begin their policing careers.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Designing and developing programme structures, detailed course maps, classroom materials, and assessments.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts to produce clear, accurate instructional resources such as session plans, presentations, and delegate materials.
  • Ensuring all content reflects current legislation, force policies, and the College of Policing curriculum—embedding ethics, professional standards, and diversity and inclusion throughout.
  • Creating formative and summative assessments, including knowledge checks, practical assessments, and role‑play evaluations, with clear assessment guides.
  • Analysing student feedback and performance data to identify learning gaps and drive continuous improvement.
  • Managing version control, keeping training materials up to date, and leading redesigns when standards or operational requirements change.
  • Supporting wider Learning & Development activities as required by the Initial Police Training Manager or senior leadership.
Why This Role Matters

Your work will directly shape the skills, knowledge, and confidence of new officers entering the service. By designing effective, evidence‑based learning programmes, you will help ensure Student Officers receive training that is operationally relevant, ethically grounded, and aligned with national policing standards. This role plays a vital part in building a professional, capable workforce that delivers exceptional service to the public.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience in designing learning programmes, curriculum content, or structured training materials.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of learning design principles and assessment development.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to ensure accuracy, legislative compliance, and alignment to College of Policing standards.
  • Commitment to delivering high‑quality training that reflects organisational values—including courage, respect, and empathy—and upholds the principles of the Code of Ethics.
  • Confidence in analysing data and learner feedback to inform ongoing improvements.
