Custody Trainer
We are seeking a dedicated Custody Training Lead to support Lincolnshire Police in delivering its core priorities: preventing crime and anti‑social behaviour, protecting people from harm, and assisting those in need. In this vital role, you will design, deliver, and coordinate high‑quality training that equips our workforce with the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to perform effectively in custody environments. You will embody the Force’s values of being courageous, open, fair, and inclusive, and uphold the highest professional standards in line with the Code of Ethics.
What You’ll Be Doing- Designing and delivering custody‑related training that meets force requirements and aligns with College of Policing standards, legislation, and force policy.
- Providing workplace‑based support and assessment in custody suites, ensuring newly appointed custody sergeants and staff are competent and confident in their decision‑making.
- Supporting the planning, scheduling, and coordination of custody training to meet operational demand.
- Maintaining subject‑matter expertise through continuous professional development and engagement with current custody, safeguarding, and training practice.
- Liaising with key stakeholders, including the College of Policing, HMIC, IOPC, partner forces, and other agencies, to ensure training remains current and reflective of recognised good practice.
- Monitoring and disseminating changes to legislation and policy, incorporating updates into training and ongoing development.
- Supporting quality assurance activity across custody, reviewing records and incidents to identify learning needs and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Contributing to wider Learning & Development programmes in areas within your competence, such as police officer training, custody detention officer courses, sergeants and inspectors development, and vulnerability and risk training.
This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safe, ethical, and effective delivery of custody services across Lincolnshire. By shaping the development of custody professionals and promoting consistent, lawful, and high‑quality practice, you will help protect vulnerable people, uphold public trust, and strengthen the professionalism of frontline policing.
