Hours: 37 Hours per week (Full-time) Monday to Friday.
Flexibility Requirement: Candidates must be open to flexible daily working hours to meet the operational needs of the department. This may include adjusting start and finish times, providing cover during peak periods, or supporting colleagues during absences. Flexibility is essential to ensure consistent service delivery and effective team collaboration.

Overall Purpose of the Role: To take day-to-day responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Quality Manual (QM) and to liaise with the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) during key audit phases within the Digital Forensic Unit (DFU). In line with the requirements of International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) standards, the post holder holds responsibility and authority for ensuring that the management system within the unit is fully implemented and that all aspects of laboratory operations comply with ISO standards and relevant codes of practice.

Key Responsibilities:
- To develop and contribute to the strategic direction of the department on digital and other forensic matters in relation to development of force process, policies and regional collaboration.
- Implementing and maintaining a Digital Forensics Unit Quality Management System that is compliant with the current ISO standards, the Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Practice and Conduct for Forensic Science Providers in the Criminal Justice System
- Establish and implement effective procedures through control of the authorisation and implementation of new quality procedures and documentation when required and also through the approval of changes to existing quality procedures and documentation.
- Ensure that a procedure for undertaking effective internal audits is established and implemented. The Quality Lead shall plan, schedule and manage internal audits and maintain the records of internal audits and electronic copy of any internal audit reports.
- The Quality Lead is responsible for reviewing all internal audit reports and ensuring non-conformances and audit observations are acted upon within the required timescale and reporting the undertaking and outcomes of internal audits at management review. Maintains records of non-conforming work, corrective actions and preventative actions.
- Formulate service level agreements (SLA) in relation to the examination of computer and mobile phone type devices undertaken by the DFU and monitor adherence to those SLAs. Arrange the booking and payment of training identified by the Technical Lead as required.
- The Quality Lead will advise and make recommendations on the purchase of consumables and of equipment, and outsourcing services to third party suppliers
- Provide advice and guidance on quality matters and strategy in relation to the DFU’s day to day operations, including identifying emerging technologies to be assimilated, integrated and introduced within the department, and undertaking projects which could impact on the service offered.

- Excellent organisational skills
- Experience of dealing with digital media in a policing environment and a broad understanding of computer and mobile phone forensics.
- Able to prepare well balanced reports in a concise, logical and timely manner.
- Possess an in-depth and current understanding of digital investigations and digital forensic techniques
- Must be willing to undertake and complete the College of Policing Core Skills in Data Recovery & Analysis, Forensic Tool Kit and Encase courses.
- Be able to demonstrate advanced competency in computer and portable digital device examinations
- Has an understanding of the development of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Possess an understanding of exhibit management and handling processes.
- Experience of working in a confidential environment.
- Good presentation skills and report writing skills.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision when required.
- Carries out tasks in an accurate and methodical manner with an eye for detail.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
