Job purpose:

To ensure that process, practice, and decision making is delivered consistently and in compliance with the Vetting Code of Practice, Authorised Professional Practice (APP) and the obligations of the ISO:9001 by delivering a quality assurance regime to maintain a high and consistent standard of vetting.

Main responsibilities: 

  1. To work, as directed by the Vetting Trainers and Vetting Manager, to deliver an effective quality assurance regime for the Police National Vetting Service.
  2. Conduct quality assurance audits of vetting files including appeals processes to ensure compliance with the Vetting Code of Practice, Vetting Authorised Professional Practice and and the obligations of the ISO:9001 Quality Management System.
  3. To provide feedback to Vetting Case Officers, to improve compliance with the Vetting Code of Practice, Vetting Authorised Professional Practice and ISO9001 processes.
  4. To provide Vetting Supervisors with the outputs and feedback from individual audits to support their individuals ongoing development and inform any interventions where necessary and proportionate.
  5. To work with the Force Data and Insight Analyst allocated to Vetting to evaluate and analyse data from the quality assurance regime to inform decision making and drive improved performance.
  6. To provide feedback to the Vetting Trainers to ensure that systemic themes and issues arising from the quality assurance audits is used to inform Continued Professional Development and the ongoing continuous improvement of the Vetting Case Officer Training.
  7. To maintain knowledge and skills with regard to national and local changes including relevant policy / legislation (e.g. Data Protection Act, Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, College of Policing Vetting Code of Practice, College of Policing Vetting APP and National Decision Model).
  8. Ensure confidentiality of information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation. Report data breaches as soon as you become aware of one occurring.
  9. To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.

Special Conditions: 

Travel throughout the Warwickshire Policing Area on occasion.

Person Specification:

Knowledge:

  • A Level or equivalent.
  • Familiar with and competent to use/explain the role of relevant policy/legislation (e.g. Data Protection Act, Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, College of Policing Vetting Code of Practice, College of Policing Vetting APP and National Decision Model).

Experience:

  • Experience of the role of the Vetting Case Office.
  • Experience of researching, interpreting, validating and corroborating complex information.
  • The ability to act on own judgement and make effective decisions compliant with the Vetting Code of Practice and APP.
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk.
  • Experience of presenting accurate, comprehensive documentation demonstrating attention to detail.
  • Supporting and developing the professional development of others
  • Able to work to strict deadlines, managing a high workload.
