HP - Skilled Reparation Volunteer (Various Roles)

Role: Skilled Reparation Volunteer (various roles) 

Department: Community Safety Unit  

Location: Hull  

Hours:  minimum 4 hours per week (negotiable) 

Contract: Permanent 

 

Are you passionate about helping young people make positive changes in their lives? Do you have skills in gardening, arts & crafts, cooking, or woodwork? Join us as a Skilled Reparation Volunteer and support young people involved in the Youth Justice System through meaningful community-based activities. 

 

Volunteer Roles Available: 

 

Gardening Volunteer 

Deliver hands-on sessions in planting, growing vegetables, and outdoor maintenance. Help young people learn practical skills while contributing to community spaces. 

Arts & Crafts Volunteer 

Lead creative sessions such as card making, murals, upcycling furniture, and more. Encourage emotional expression and personal development through art. 

Woodwork Volunteer 

Lead practical sessions in carpentry and DIY, such as building planters, repairing benches, and crafting bird boxes. Help young people develop hands-on skills and contribute to community improvement projects. 

Cooking Volunteer 

Deliver fun and educational cooking sessions that teach basic food preparation, kitchen safety, and healthy eating. Support young people in gaining life skills while promoting wellbeing and responsibility. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and deliver hands-on sessions tailored to your area of expertise—whether gardening, creative arts, cooking, or woodwork. 
  • Encourage young people to participate positively, reflect on their actions, and develop a sense of responsibility and pride in their work. 
  • Ensure all activities are carried out safely, respectfully, and inclusively, following safeguarding and health & safety guidelines. 
  • Help young people learn practical skills that contribute to their personal growth and benefit the wider community. 
  • Prepare the workspace before sessions and ensure it is clean and safe afterwards (especially relevant for cooking and arts & crafts). 
  • Maintain basic records of attendance and progress and report any concerns to the Youth Justice Reparation Worker. 
  • Work alongside Youth Justice staff to ensure sessions align with reparation goals and individual support plans. 

 

 

Skills and knowledge required: 

  • Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by young people 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Reliable and a non-judgmental attitude. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow guidance. 
  • Commitment to confidentiality and safeguarding. 

 

 

Desirable criteria  

  • Knowledge of childcare legislation 
  • Hold a full driving licence 
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant qualification 
  • Basic IT skills

Pre – Employment Checks and Eligibility:  

  • Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria of at least 3 years continuous residency in the UK to apply for roles with Humberside Police. 
  • Successful candidates will undergo a vetting procedure pre-requisite of employment. (Please note, with holding any information asked by the vetting department, may delay the vetting procedure, or result in your vetting been refused and the offer of employment been withdrawn)
