Humberside Police are seeking caring and approachable individuals to join the force as a Volunteer Chaplains, providing emotional and wellbeing support to officers and staff.
This important role centres on building relationships based on trust, empathy, and respect—offering a listening ear and a source of comfort during challenging times. The Chaplain supports all personnel, regardless of personal beliefs or backgrounds, and contributes to a positive and supportive working environment.

Key Responsibilities:


• A Volunteer Police Chaplain will be expected to take responsibility for visiting a police station or operational unit within convenient travelling distance.
• A minimum time commitment equivalent to two hours per week is recommended (negotiable).
• A chaplain should be reliable and be accessible to those they serve.
• Take the initiative in promoting chaplaincy and being known as a source of care, listening and reflection.
• To become a familiar visitor to their area, building trust to enable support and conversations to take place in confidence.
• To develop an up-to-date awareness of the structure and culture of the police service and be sensitive to the stress officers and staff may experience in their everyday work.
• The Chaplain should keep regular contact with sergeants and inspectors and identify ways to help in building links with the local community.
• The Chaplain should be aware of current ethical or moral issues affecting police personnel.
• To be willing to attend relevant in-service training courses to develop relevant skills and keep abreast of new developments.

Skills and knowledge required:
• Volunteer chaplains should have some affiliation to a religious or faith group which supports their own spiritual health and wellbeing.
• It is expected that chaplains will have some pastoral or welfare experience, or equivalent and have good listening skills.
• Applicants should be computer literate, with easy access to emails and mobile phone.


Further information:
Volunteer chaplains will be required to attend a course of induction before commencing the role provided by Police Chaplaincy UK. This usually takes the form of one day’s training along with chaplains from other Forces, at a regional centre, for which travel expenses will be paid. Attendance is also expected at additional meetings, approximately 3 per year, for education and networking.

Pre – Employment Checks and Eligibility: 
• Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria of at least 3 years continuous residency in the UK to apply for roles with Humberside Police.
• Successful candidates will undergo a vetting procedure pre-requisite of employment. (Please note, with holding any information asked by the vetting department, may delay the vetting procedure, or result in your vetting been refused and the offer of employment been withdrawn)
• Tattoo’s will be reviewed as a part of the recruitment process to ensure we maintain a level of professional standards and to make sure the images do not cause offence or are unacceptable.
