Deputy Chief Drone Pilot

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Deputy Chief Pilot (Drones) to support the safe, effective, and compliant use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) within Lincolnshire Police. Working under the direction of the Chief Pilot/Flight Safety Manager (Drones), you will play a key role in ensuring our drone operations meet all regulatory, operational, and safety standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will act as the Force’s Deputy Chief Pilot, providing expert guidance to the Chief Pilot and Accountable Manager. You’ll oversee pilot training, flight‑hour records, compliance monitoring, and adherence to operational procedures. You will manage and maintain drone equipment, support incident response with tactical advice or piloting as required, and contribute to the ongoing development of the Operations Manual and Standard Operating Procedures. You will also work closely with national bodies such as NPCC, CAA and AAIB regarding incident reporting and investigations.

Why This Role Matters

Drones are a vital operational tool for Lincolnshire Police, supporting emergency response, investigations, and public safety. Your work will ensure that all UAV activity is conducted safely, legally, and professionally—helping the organisation deliver an effective service to the community. You will also champion equality, fairness, and the highest ethical standards throughout your work.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone with strong technical UAV expertise, excellent understanding of regulatory requirements, and the ability to provide tactical advice in dynamic situations. You should be confident delivering training, maintaining operational standards, and acting as a key subject matter expert for drone-related activity, including Counter‑UAS tasks. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and professionalism are essential.
