Job Title: Economic Crime HQ Senior Support Officer

Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Economic Crime Command is part of Central Specialist Crime and specialises in the investigation of Fraud and Money Laundering offences and conducts Financial Investigations.  Economic Crime has many and varied strands to tackle some of the most serious offenders and prevent them gaining financially from their crimes. We support the wider Met with their financial enquiries, cash seizures, asset freezing and confiscations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) legislation.

The HQ function provides critical administrative support to investigators, ensuring our officers and staff have access to the correct systems and tools required to conduct their investigations.  The team are responsible for arranging training, producing and analysing performance data, undertaking compliance work on cases and a number of other essential admin functions. Following on from a recruitment drive for Accredited Financial Investigators (AFIs) the remit of the HQ function has increased. The team are looking to recruit two senior support officers in order to help facilitate this increase and ongoing support for our investigators. Previous line management experience is essential and must be evidenced in the application. You will also need to demonstrate excellent organizational skills as you will be dealing with shifting priorities, whilst managing your own workload and supporting your staff.  Excellent communication skills are required as you will be dealing with internal and external stakeholders at various levels. 

Key Responsibilities:

Training Manager

  • Managing the course demand for the POCA and Fraud courses.
  • Ensuring Economic Crime and the wider Met have the required number of courses to meet demand.
  • Lead and develop policies, anticipate challenges and prepare the Met’s response accordingly.  
  • Represent the Met’s interests as relationship manager with external agencies overseeing Financial Investigation.
  • Define strategy and drive delivery on training for the Met.
  • Forecast annual training and accreditation budgets, providing updates to senior management, flagging any barriers or risks.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert and represent the Met’s interests when collaborating on design projects for future IT solutions, necessary for financial investigation and asset recovery.

 Accreditation and Monitoring Manager

  • Monitor Accredited Financial Investigator’s accreditation to ensure records are up to date and requirements are met.
  • Ensure Professional Development Portfolios (PDP) are submitted as per the Proceeds of Crime Centre’s (PoCC) regulations.
  • Produce and present reports in relation to accreditation across the Met. 
  • Resolve queries from Investigators in relation to accreditation.
  • Oversee payments and review Purchase Orders raised for accreditation.
  • Lead and develop policies, anticipate challenges and prepare the Met’s response accordingly.  
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert and represent the Met’s interests when collaborating on design projects for future IT solutions, necessary for financial investigation and asset recovery. 

Both roles also include chairing various meetings with internal and external stakeholders, producing, quality assuring and presenting performance data for the Met. You will be expected to assist with any other tasks and ad-hoc requests received by the team.   

Each position currently has one member of staff reporting, which is likely to increase in the future.  

Vetting

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post.
