ERSOU CTP Exercise & Training Support Officer Staff

Learning, Training & Exercising (LTE) in Eastern Region Special Operations Unit for Counter Terrorism Policing (ERSOU CTP) sits within the Protect and Prepare stands of the National CONTEST Strategy. The LTE function comprises the Learning and Development team and the Prepare team.

The Learning, Training & Exercise function is a small but dedicated team whose focus is to prepare for terrorist attacks and reduce their impact for the whole of the Eastern Region.

If the worst happens, we want to be suitably prepared to allow us to respond as quickly and efficiently as possible to a terrorist attack. To help us prepare for terrorist incidents, we regularly test our methods by holding exercises, testing CT plans across the region and by training our staff to deal with such situations as quickly and efficiently as possible.

This role will be equally split between supporting the Learning and Development team whilst they provide the most relevant training and continual personal development opportunities to all CT staff and officers and supporting the Prepare team whilst they facilitate testing and exercising, debriefing and assurance work around Counter Terrorism Plans and resilience strategies.

The Prepare team also maintain a debriefing functionality to assist with learning from testing, exercising, real-life incidents and investigations which facilitates risk management in the future. They also play their part within the National Prepare portfolio sharing knowledge and learning whilst assisting with bigger regional and national exercises. The successful candidate will play a supporting role within these functions.

This is a varied and stimulating role which requires the successful candidate to be focused and motivated. Good communication skills and experience of managing a busy workload are essential.

This is an agile role, as per ERSOU guidance, and the successful candidate will be required to attend and support meetings, and testing and exercises events across the Eastern Region and on occasions nationally. Although standard working hours are 0800-1600 Monday to Friday (no shifts) a flexible approach is required to support out of hours events including exercises and live incidents.

They will be required to assist in the smooth running of the departments by performing a range of duties including some administrative and some of a complex nature. Although not essential it is desirable for the successful candidate to have a working knowledge of Counter Terrorism Policing and an understanding of the UK CONTEST strategy.
