Salary: £50,330 plus £6,710 London Weighting plus £200 London Allowance per annum

About the team
The Strategy, Planning and Service Improvement team aims to be a strategic hub that leads and coordinates the City of London Police’s approach to strategy development, planning and risk management, tracking and evaluating performance, and strategic stakeholder relations. Through data and insights, the strategic hub will enable the police service to adapt to an ever-changing environment and plan for the future. It will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure there is a clear long-term strategic vision underpinned by plans to develop capabilities and improve service delivery.
About the role
We are recruiting for a Governance Manager who will lead the newly-created governance team within the Strategy, Planning & Service Improvement department. We are looking for an exceptional candidate who will provide strategic guidance on the development and operation of force governance and risk frameworks ensuring consistency of approach and support at force and directorate levels. You will lead and assure the force’s approach to external police authority governance and the process for management of organisational risk.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be:
- Develop and lead an efficient and effective governance framework of strategic meetings at force and directorate levels ensuring the highest standards of corporate governance including the development, review and implementation of governance policies and practices.
- Advise chief officers on Corporation governance and decision-making authorities and negotiate delegated authorities where appropriate.
- Act as the interface between the Police Authority and chief officers, ensuring strategic priorities are aligned and the principles of the Policing Protocol 2011 are being applied
- Lead the development of efficient and effective risk management framework, aligning with Corporation risk management approaches where appropriate, and embed across corporate governance.
- Oversee the risk and audit function ensuring continuous improvement and a proactive strategic approach to risk management, internal audit and business continuity to minimise organisational risk.
Requirements
For this role, you will need the following:
- Educated to degree level or experience working in an governance role
- Experience of working at a strategic level managing governance in a large complex organisation, preferably a police force or other public sector organisation that works within a defined statutory framework
- Demonstrable experience of being able to develop and apply governance processes to a high standard
- A detailed knowledge and understanding of the political environment in which policing and policing governance bodies operate
- A detailed knowledge of City of London Corporation governance framework or ability to quickly acquire this knowledge

Selection Process
As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills, and knowledge demonstrate your ability to meet the person specification of the role.
The application and interview will be tested under Level 2 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered.

Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview, to be held week commencing Monday 14th April 2025.
