As Head of Corporate Communications, you will design and implement a range of communications strategies, delivered through your small team, utilising a range of public engagement events, social media channels and effective briefings.

You will effectively co-ordinate the various workstreams within the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, to maximise opportunities to promote its work.  You will be in regular communication with local and national media, internal stakeholders and partners, ensuring that the Commissioner’s vision for policing in Kent is effectively communicated.

A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar high-pressure role is required, as is demonstrable experience in dealing with the media, and managing challenges as and when they arise.

You must be confident, articulate, and with a high standard of written English to produce both policy briefings and press releases.  Fluency with social media and the experience with managing websites, both in terms of content and layout, is vital.

You will be calm under pressure, effectively prioritising your workload, and able to represent the Commissioner when required.

Your work will be split between home, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner in Maidstone, and events across the county and wider South-East Region.  There will be occasional evening and weekend work, as a part of flexible working arrangements.

Consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work part time (c. four days per week).

This role is subject to vetting, and is also ‘politically restricted’ as per the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
