Humberside Police are looking for a highly motivated individual to join them in their busy Learning & Development Department within the People Services function.
As an Operational Police Trainer, the post holder will be required to develop and deliver training packages to student officers and experienced police staff on a variety of subjects relating to operational policing.
The successful candidate will motivate, encourage and develop people to achieve their full potential whilst promoting equality, valuing diversity and challenge inappropriate behaviour.
This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about Learning & Development.
Key Responsibilities:
- To possess a good knowledge of the law and police processes and procedure keeping abreast of any changes and to be in position to stimulate and assess student’s knowledge of them.
- To be able to assess a student’s needs and deliver the appropriate training to obtain positive development.
- Cascades experience, knowledge and skills gained as an operational Police Officer or staff member to Police Officers and Police Staff under assessment and instruction.
- Identify training needs, define course aims and objectives, in accordance with force, departmental and external requirements, such as The People Strategy, Plan on a Page and Learning & Development Strategy.
- Have responsibility for discipline and welfare issues relating to student officers. This includes being the first point of contact for any officer seeking assistance and taking responsibility for the initiation of discipline proceedings where necessary (in liaison with IPT supervisors).
- Design and develop course materials, training aids, manuals and workbooks to assist in the delivery of training.
- Monitor, assess and validate student performance towards internal and external accreditation. This specifically includes the PEQF entry routes ‘Police Action Checklist’ requirements, assessment against the National Occupational Standards for Student Officers and assessment for NVQ competence.

What the role requires:
- Experience of maintaining databases and researching data from computerised recording systems.
- Must hold a Level 4 training qualification or lower but willing to work towards a Level 4 or higher.
- Must have relevant experience of the training cycle and all aspects within it delivering to an adult learning environment.
- Experience of working in a confidential environment
- The ability to prepare and deliver course material in a classroom without direct supervision.
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise multiple activities, escalating as and when appropriate.
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision when required.
- Carries out tasks in an accurate and methodical manner with an eye for detail.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
- Able to travel the force area.
- Ability to work occasional weekends, and afternoon and evening shifts ending at 2000hrs.
- Attend and pass the police drivers instruction course.
