We are looking for talented and inspirational people who put the needs of the public at the heart of everything that they do and who want to make a difference. If you feel you are that person then we want to hear from you.

We wish you all the very best with your application.

Chief Constable Tim De Meyer & Chief Constable Jo Shiner

The Role & Key Responsibilities

Public Protection has an exciting opportunity for PIP2, or PIP1 looking to take the NIE, to join the new Bluestone and Iris Teams across the Force.

Public Protection is currently going through a review, where we are creating specialist teams within the area of safeguarding. The PIP2 Investigators will be based across five areas in Littlehampton, Crawley, Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings. There are currently PIP2 investigator posts available at:

Eastbourne Bluestone x 2

Brighton & Hove Bluestone x 2

Crawley Bluestone x 1

Horsham Iris x 1

Bluestone Team – Will specialise in Serious Sexual Offences and High Risk Domestic Abuse

Iris Team – Child Protection and Adult Protection (Interfamilial abuse, persons in a position of trust both child and adult, abuse within care home and child/adult death)

From May 2025  the pattern will be three earlies, three lates and three rest days for the Bluestone Teams and a more Mon-Fri for the Iris Teams.

The Teams investigate some of the most complex crimes within the force and as such make the role one of the most rewarding departments to be part of. The department apprehends some of the most dangerous offenders, which results in some of the force’s most longest prison sentences, helping survivors to close a traumatic chapter of their lives and enabling them to move on to a brighter future.

The  Teams will be provide service to some of the most vulnerable people in our society, many of whom may be unwilling or unable to safeguard themselves. Officers working within these teams will work alongside partners across both adult and children services to safeguard victims within Sussex, the UK and nationally.

Public Protection is committed to supporting career development, which can include becoming an expert in role or supporting career advancement opportunities. We will work with you to help you maximise your potential.

If joining as PIP1, then will start on SPA 8 rising to SPA 10 on completion of the NIE.

We encourage applications from flexible workers.

Attend strategy meetings and child protection case conferences to share police information with partner agencies and participate in safeguarding decision making processes. Identify and refer cases as appropriate for MARAC consideration.

Interview victims, witnesses and suspected offenders in cases of alleged abuse, prepare files appropriately, to ensure the best evidence is made available to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
