The Digital Forensic Unit are looking for a technician to join their department.
The post holder will be responsible for the triage of digital devices into the Digital Forensic Unit, reviewing data and images.
You will be required to support the senior technician with acquisition of digital evidence and providing the back office technical and administrative support necessary for the running of the Unit.
Working with the DFU team, you will ensure risks to children and vulnerable groups is communicated swiftly to the correct person who can take action to mitigate the risks and implement safeguarding.
The Digital Forensic Technicians deal with highly sensitive information so previous experience working in a confidential environment is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- As the receiving officer provide technical support and advice to internal and external users of DFU services, including computer triage, to ensure appropriate use and effectiveness to safeguard victims and secure prosecutions.
- Produces evidential reports and statements and gives evidence at Court when and if required.
- Undertakes forensically sound operation and recovery of information and potential evidence using tools to perform “Triage” assessment of digital devices in compliance with ACPO good practice guide for digital evidence.
- Completes risk assessments on data reviewed, identifying any apparent risks and requirement for immediate safeguarding, ensuring an appropriate supervisor is informed ASAP.
- Has an understanding of RIPA authorities and liaises with the Covert Authorities Bureau when the need for additional authority to examine data is identified.
- Assists in relation to the forensically sound recovery of evidence and intelligence held on computer systems.
What the role requires:
- Experience of maintaining databases and researching data from computerised recording systems
- Ability to identify and understand internal computer components, with a willingness to learn and assist with the dismantling of computer equipment
- Experience of working in a clerical field, incorporating record keeping, telephone work etc
- Excellent communication skills
- Computer literacy/keyboard skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to work with minimum supervision when required
- Carries out tasks in an accurate and methodical manner with an eye for detail
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise workload
