Salary: Starting Salary £40,910 plus £6,710 London weighting totalling £47,620 per annum

About the team

The Information Management Services department has a strong, integrated information management vision in which data analytics plays a big part. The department is focused on supporting the various information needs of the Force and provides services to support public access to information, information security and assurance as well as records and data quality functions.

In addition, the department fosters a culture of specialism and support for front line policing systems, including national, regional and local systems. The unique nature of the Force and its diverse responsibilities make it a great place to work and a place to develop with likeminded people working together to keep our community safe from harm.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a data exploitation specialist to join the City of London Police. The role of the data exploitation specialist is to understand and exploit the various data sources accessible to the force which include national, local and open-source data sets.

This role provides a focal point for supporting the various data requirements across the force. The Data Exploitation Specialist is expert in all aspects of data exploitation and is supported by Data Analysts to ensure they have the necessary resource to succeed.

The ideal Data Exploitation Specialist shall have a minimum of 5 years’ experience, and specialist knowledge of data analytics platforms and tooling, broad technical and IT skills are essential with demonstrable experience with complex data environments and data analytics systems.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be:

• Responsible for the development of modern, efficient, robust data pipelines and products, making use of cloud native and best in class technologies as appropriate.

• Develop automated data ingest routines, workflows and mappings for structured and unstructured data.

• Development of complex data models for new and existing data sources to provide accessible and reusable data for the company, other Government Departments, and Private Sector Partners

• Data Modelling: Design and develop efficient data models to support the force data requirements and objectives. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into scalable and robust data models.

• Power BI Development: Utilise Power BI to create visually appealing and interactive reports, dashboards, and data visualisations. Transform complex data into meaningful insights and present them to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

Requirements

For this role, we need you to have experience of:

• Degree in relevant subject (e.g. applied maths, statistics, computer science) or proven work experience as a data engineer.

• Proven ability to select and use appropriate statistical and analytical techniques to help draw insight from a wide range of data applications including data mining, AI/ machine learning, algorithm building, automation and predictive modelling.

• Demonstrable experience in creating and maintaining Power BI reports and dashboards.

• Excellent understanding of T-SQL queries, stored procedures, user-defined functions, views, indexes, and developer code associated with the database.

• Experience with data storage technologies such as azure data lakes, data warehouse and traditional SQL databases.

The application and interview will be tested under Level 2 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
