An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Asset Recovery Unit for a Confiscator.

This role places you at the very forefront of removing criminal wealth and ensuring crime does not pay. It is expected that you will work with minimal supervision yet maintain a high workload in a demanding environment the success of which will depend on you. In return you will take satisfaction from tackling crime, returning compensation to victims and doing a job that makes a real difference. The removal of assets from active criminals is extremely rewarding work and provides public reassurance when tackling organised crime.

The successful candidate will investigate the financial status and activity of persons engaged in acquisitive crime in order to identify those liable for asset recovery. In addition, you will support criminal and life at risk investigations through targeted financial investigation.

It is desirable that you are trained and qualified to NCA financial investigator accreditation (Parts 2, 5 and 8 of POCA 2002). For successful applicants who are not NCA qualified you will be expected to successfully complete the training programme.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To identify and pursue opportunities for the recovery of criminal assets by means of confiscation and civil recovery powers in order to further the disruption of criminal activity by serious and organised criminals and networks.
  • Act as the officer in the case and disclosure officer for all asset recovery investigations (criminal based ‘confiscation’ / ‘restraint’; or civil based ‘cash seizure’, ‘listed assets’, ‘cryptocurrency’, ‘frozen funds / asset freezing order’).
  • Ensure all decisions made and material gathered is recorded and dealt with in line with CPIA requirements.
  • Take responsibility for the financial aspect of designated operations liaising closely with case officers, attending briefings, and assisting with the development investigations. Attend locations when search warrants are executed to identify material of potential benefit to a financial investigation and to ensure its seizure in accordance with current legislation.
  • Prepare all the necessary documentation and assists the Crown Prosecution Service in accordance with the local agreement on all aspects in relation to Restraint Orders under Part 2 of POCA 2002.  Serves notices on all interested parties in accordance with the legislation in order that their assets may be restrained or frozen.
  • Apply for appropriate approval in relation to the exercise of a power under Sections 47C, 47D, 47E and 47F and provides written reports to the appointed person where the provisions of Section 47H apply.
  • Action intelligence and financial disclosures from the National Crime Agency ensuring that it is disseminated and investigated in accordance with National policy.

What the role requires:

  • Experience of Researching and interrogating complex data.
  • Qualified to A Level standard or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of financial accounts/procedures.
  • Experience of report writing.
  • Must be willing to attend all relevant courses.
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills
  • Regular attendance at both Crown and Magistrates court to give evidence.
  • Ability to search premises and apply for warrants in accordance with current legislation.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision when required.
  • Carries out tasks in an accurate and methodical manner with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
