Investigations Standards Gatekeeper (PIP1)
An Investigation Standards Gatekeeper is sought to work within the Investigation Standards workstream to support improving outcomes for victims and overall victim satisfaction. The successful applicant will be required to review current investigations and provide advice and support to investigating staff and supervisors to promote learning and development of key investigative skills, with the ultimate aim of improving positive outcomes for victims. This role involves research and review of a wide range of PIP1 (general investigations) and face to face contact with staff and supervisors to support their development and to enhance victim satisfaction.Main activities of the role (This list is not exhaustive)
Undertake quality assurance audits on recorded crime reports to support PIP1 supervisors and investigators with maximising positive outcomes applying corrective or remedial action or making recommendations for improvement using rationale that reflects the force priorities and Chief Officers delivery plan.
Identify good practice and share learning and good practice on a team, local and force level.
Identify learning and development opportunities and requirements for individual supervisors, assess if the learning requires a local or force response and work with the supervisor and their managers to improve the individuals skills and abilities and improve positive outcomes for victims.
Disseminate feedback in a clear and timely manner to supervisors, with a view to continuous improvement and reducing missed opportunities to solve crime.
Produce clear and accurate reports to be used by business leads, department heads and Chief Officer teams in order to monitor force compliance in relation to investigation standards and to ensure that areas for improvement are identified and addressed.
Prepare and deliver training and advice on crime investigation standards to individuals and departments, with the aim of improving force compliance and maintaining awareness of new legislation, procedures and best practice. a) The duties may from time to time vary without changing the general character of the role or the levels of responsibilities.
b) The role will be based at one of the 3 area main stations, the location stipulated on an employment contract will be determined by the post holders home address. You will be required to work at other establishments within Suffolk Constabulary and travel will be an essential part of this role. Police Staff Conditions of Service will be adhered to in such instances.
c) All duties must be carried out in accordance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and good practice. A ‘No Smoking in the Work Place’ policy applies.
d) All duties must be carried out in a manner that supports the Constabulary’s commitment to equality and inclusion.
e) Must be prepared to work some evenings (occasionally and as required) to deliver presentations/talks etc. Core hours to be worked between the hours of 0800-2000 hours.
Essential Criteria
1. Ability to extract, collate and evaluate data, and present findings using a variety of tools such as Athena Crime Recording System, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Power Point
2.Previous experience in investigations at a minimum of PIP1
3.Previous experience in a supervisory, training or learning development role.
4.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write and deliver clear and accurate reports relating to complex information.
5.Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide in person feedback and work with individuals to identify good practice and build development and improvement plans.
6.Ability to create and deliver presentations to a varied audience.
7.Proven ability to develop and deliver solutions to problems by considering and applying guidelines consistently across a range of situations.
8.Ability to work on own initiative, producing work to tight timescales and with good time management skill.
Desirable Criteria
1.Previous experience/qualification in PIP2 investigations.
