An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of a Police Staff  MOSOVO Polygraph Officer, based at the Colchester MOSOVO hub.

 

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Conduct Polygraph Tests with volunteer registered sex offenders and those subject to positive requirements as part of their sexual harm prevention/sexual risk order to identify previously unknown information or confirm what information is known or suspected about in a registered sex offender in relation to the risk they pose to members of the community.
  • Conduct pre-charge Polygraph tests with suspects being investigated by the Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT).
  • Conduct Polygraph on other high risk sex offence suspects being investigated by Public Protection.
  • Contribute information to all the management of the risk presented by the offender to the public and local community, allow suitable interventions to be implemented or reduce the monitoring required by the offender.
  • When required to support the Offender Manager role in MOSOVO by conducting unannounced monitoring visits in accordance with the individuals risk assessments, using professional judgement during these visits to identify offences and any issues in relation to the RSOs behaviour or actions which arise suspicion and may require immediate action either in relation to criminal offences or safeguarding.  Carrying out searches and act as exhibits officer ensuring the integrity of evidence retrieved and the recording of exhibits organising the storage and appropriate security of exhibits.

 

Applicants are asked to evidence the following in the reasons for application:

  • Sound Decision Making with a proven ability to critically analyse information
  • Effective Management of Workload and ability to Identify Risk and Harm
  • Previous Experience of Crime Investigation
  • Previous experience in managing sexual offenders
  • Ability to Communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals

 

The following attributes are also desirable, though not essential:

  • Ability to identify Intelligence Development and Dissemination Opportunities
  • Good understanding of Public Protection crime types, especially sex offenders and those that exploit the vulnerable
  • BMUK Accreditation with annual CPD up to date
  • An understanding of RIPA legislation, overt and covert tactical opportunities

Polygraph staff are required to work Monday to Friday 0800-1600 however there may need to be some flexibility with conducting tests later in the day or on a weekend. This will be pre-arranged and not mandatory.

 

The successful candidate must also be aware and committed to attend an external residential course expected to last a period of 12 weeks. Due to the significant cost of the course the post holder will be expected to remain in role for a period of 5 years or be responsible for the cost of the course to Essex Police if they leave earlier.

Essex Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of £35,982.00.
