We are looking for someone to #JoinUs as an Assistant Solicitor within the Operational team in Joint Legal Services. Could you be who we are looking for?
About the team/Department you will be joining:
- We are a small team providing a comprehensive legal service to the Chief Constables and Police and Crime Commissioners for South Wales and Gwent.
- Joint Legal Services is a Collaborative team, supporting both South Wales and Gwent Police and covers a breadth of legal areas covering employment, operations, litigation and corporate law issues that affect policing.
About the role and your key responsibilities:
- This role will include advising officers and staff in relation to Police powers, considering and drafting complex civil preventative orders and providing general advices on behalf of both Forces
- Representing both Chief Constables at court and other hearings.
- Assisting other team members in the provision of general advice to officers and staff on a range of legal issues, as well as supervising caseworkers and caseworker assistants to complete that work.
What skills and experience do we need you to bring to the role:
- You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister with a current practicing certificate at the time of the role commencement.
- We are looking for someone who can work in a demanding work environment, offering clear advice dealing with a considerable and diverse caseload within time constraints and responding to fast changing requirements with minimal
- We are keen to hear from you if you have experience of conducting advocacy before criminal courts, have policing / criminal experience and proven negotiating and presentation skills.

The successful Candidate must be willing to undergo vetting to MV/SC Vetting.
