Salary: The starting salary is £36,228 which includes allowances totalling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £33,219 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £35,541 Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: Lambeth
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) as a Public Order and Events Planner within the Operations and Public Order Planning function.
The Role
The role supports the safe, effective and lawful planning of a wide range of major events and policing operations across London. You will work across a diverse portfolio that may include public order operations, ceremonial events, major sporting fixtures, festivals, and significant events in Westminster. Planners work collaboratively with police officers, partner agencies, and event organisers to develop robust plans that protect the public, maintain confidence in policing, and support London’s role as a global city.
The role requires flexibility to move between planning portfolios during periods of increased demand or to support major operations.
Working arrangements
This is a full‑time role (36 hours per week) based primarily at Lambeth HQ. Flexibility is essential, including working approximately one Saturday in eight, with occasional out‑of‑hours or on‑call commitments to meet operational needs. The role may require travel across London and deployment at multiple operational locations.

Duties and Responsibilities –
- Provide professional planning support for events requiring a policing response, ensuring delivery is safe, proportionate and lawful.
- Act as a lead planner for designated events, producing structured and intelligence‑led plans.
- Develop operational documentation including event plans, resourcing models, briefings, and risk assessments in line with national and organisational guidance.
- Liaise closely with operational command teams, providing advice and planning products to support decision‑
- Conduct site visits and attend events to oversee delivery and adapt plans in response to emerging risks or issues.
- Work with partner agencies, local authorities, and event organisers to ensure coordinated planning and delivery.
- Participate in planning meetings and represent the Metropolitan Police Service in multi‑agency forums.
- Maintain planning resilience by supporting other event and operational portfolios as required.
- Use planning systems and standard IT tools (including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to produce accurate and timely outputs.
- Contribute to debriefs and learning activity to improve future planning and operational delivery.
