Airwave Engineer - Police Staff

Main purpose of the role:

As an Airwave Engineer you will be providing direct support to all users of the emergency communication radios, currently Airwave, used to communicate active updates between officers and the control room and provide emergency calls for officers needing help and support out on the streets.  

You will be configuring, testing, implementing and decommissioning hardware, software and services for new or replacement Airwave radio equipment, auditing usage, fixing problems and helping customers across the force.

You will also have the opportunity to be involved in projects that have a dependency on radio communications including those influenced by National Programmes of work.

Key Skills & Experience required:

  • Experience and knowledge of
  • Airwave Tetra Propagation
  • Airwave Infrastructure
  • Microsoft Office applications
  • Working with working with technical specifications and diagrams
  • Maintaining, implementing and recording details of Airwave Tetra Services equipment, peripherals and ancillary equipment, spares, upgrades and decommissioning
  • Liaising successfully with users, suppliers, colleagues and staff, including the production of technical documents to help maintain operational support levels.
  • Communication skills
  • Self-motivated, self-confident, enthusiastic and able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Pro-active, flexible, open minded and innovative in style; willing to experiment with new ideas and implement change.
  • Analyse a problem or situation break it down systematically into its component parts and identify the relationships between these parts, selecting the appropriate method/tool to resolve the problem and reflect on the result, so that that learning is identified and absorbed
  • Deal effectively with unexpected situations, taking advantage of opportunities and overcoming problems.
