Applications are invited from Constables who have passed week 75 of their student learning programme and who would wish to work in the capacity of police diver within the Regional Underwater Search and Marine Unit.
The main purpose of the Underwater Search and Marine Unit is to provide police diver assistance in the recovery of evidence, lost property or deceased persons, carry out confined space searches and defensive security searches and to assist with marine policing and work with partner agencies where appropriate.
The Unit is based at Melton, near Hull. Successful candidates should be able to be flexible in relation to working hours and will be expected to work across the Yorkshire and Humber region.
It is essential that applicants are willing to undertake and successfully complete the Basic Police Air Dive Course with Northumbria Police from the 7th September to 30th October 2026 and attain the HSE certificate of Police Diving.
The successful applicant will be vetted to SC Level or will be willing to undergo vetting to this level, as appropriate.
Applicants must be available for the following:
- Swim Assessment 10th March 2026
- Dive Medical – during March 2026 (dates to be confirmed)
- Diver Suitability Assessment – 27th to 30th April 2026

Eligibility criteria:
You must meet all the below eligibility criteria in order for your application to be considered for shortlisting:

Have been in your current post for a minimum of 12 months, unless this was a forced posting.

Have passed week 75 of the student learning programme.

Substantive of rank of the post you are applying for.
- If successful, further checks will be conducted such as attendance, vetting and PSB.
Exceptions apply to Eligibility Criteria in the following circumstances:
- Movement within the officer’s current section i.e., change of location.
- A short-term abstraction where the officer has returned to their original post.
- Where an officer has less than 12 months service in their current role but they were posted into this role by the Force rather than of their own application/choosing.
- Where a post has a specific skill set, requiring specific training, and the officer wishing to apply holds the required skills/training. This would require Line Manager and SLT sign off with an explanation noting the necessary detail in order for the Talent Acquisition Team to ensure the individual is considered for shortlisting.
