Deliver testing, exercising, training and organisational learning, and provide tactical advice and support to operational commanders during major incidents and disruptive events.
Working for the Met doesn’t have to mean patrolling the streets. Just as important as our uniformed officers is our 14,000-strong team of professional and support staff working behind the scenes. It’s these skilled people who provide the organisational capability to police London.
This is an operational role in regard to the Hybrid Working Policy. Police staff working in Operational roles will be required to work from a Met location. Line managers will have the autonomy to offer Hybrid Working opportunities, including WFH, for up to the equivalent of 1 day per week (no more than 20% working time) providing that there is no impact on operational delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities –
- Design and deliver testing, exercising, and training programmes to ensure MPS compliance with the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and JESIP (Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Protocols).
- Create, maintain, and evaluate Business Continuity Plans and Business Impact Assessments across MPS business groups to strengthen resilience.
- Advise and support operational commanders at gold, silver, and bronze levels during live incidents, ensuring effective response and recovery.
- Represent the MPS at London Resilience forums and multi-agency partnerships, contributing Subject Matter Expert advice to joint plans and exercises.
- Lead and facilitate organisational learning by conducting debriefs, collating lessons identified, and embedding improvements into policy and practice.
- Prepare and deliver briefings, reports and presentations to senior leaders, management board members, and external partners to influence decision-making.
- Coordinate and collaborate with partner agencies, local authorities, and other blue-light services to deliver joint resilience planning and exercising.
- Maintain horizon scanning of potential risks and emerging threats to ensure the MPS is prepared for future major incidents and business continuity risks.
- Provide advisory support to Police Commanders during live major events with some decision-making scope regarding deployment of major incident advisor cars.
- Deliver on-call cover (expected 1 x 8 weeks variable depending on abstractions and demand) as part of the emergency preparedness rota.
Benefits
You will enjoy the kind of great benefits that you’d expect from one of London's largest employers.
These include:
- Annual leave entitlement of 28 days plus bank holidays, rising to 33 days after 5 years of service

- Interest free season ticket loans
- Membership of Met sports and social clubs
