The role

Northumbria Police relies on robust, dependable digital systems to keep people safe and deliver effective policing. As a Systems Administrator specialising in the NICHE Records Management System (RMS) within our Force Transformation Department, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the force’s primary operational policing platforms.

You will ensure systems remain stable, up to date and optimised for frontline and support users across the organisation. By proactively identifying issues, completing system configuration work, and ensuring data integrity, you will help maintain the accuracy and performance of the force’s most business‑critical systems.

This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your technical skills to systems that directly impact officer efficiency, public safety, and operational outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide system administration and support, including fault diagnosis, problem resolution, actioning remedial fixes, and conducting system testing to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operation.
  • Perform daily monitoring and health checks, ensuring system stability, user access management, and timely response to issues raised by operational teams.
  • Plan, execute, and document system configuration changes and enhancements, supporting continuous system development and Digital Policing initiatives.
  • Support data quality and accuracy, acting as a point of contact for identifying data quality issues and contributing to the integrity of operational policing information.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with business users, policing departments, external partners, suppliers, and other forces, ensuring effective collaboration and best‑practice sharing.
  • Participate in cross‑force engagements and user groups to identify improvements, gather feedback, and support national consistency in NICHE usage.
  • Support the planning and acceptance testing of system upgrades, patches, and new functionality, ensuring smooth implementation and minimal operational impact.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience working in a service‑managed environment, ideally within the public sector or a mission‑critical system context.
  • Strong organisational skills, preferably with knowledge of system administration functions and change management methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret complex NICHE data structures or system behaviours and explain them clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem‑solving ability, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Capability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet operational deadlines.
  • Skill in translating operational policing needs into technical system outcomes — bridging the gap between frontline requirements and technical constraints.
  • Customer‑focused approach to supporting officers and staff using our systems in high‑pressure, fast‑moving environments.

We know it's important for you to feel that you're not only part of a great team, but part of a community. We welcome applications from suitably qualified people from all sections of the community, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
