Business Support Manager - Maternity Cover

Applications are invited for a Business Support Manager to join Joint Protective Services (JPS) in driving essential business support delivery by developing robust policies and processes to support departments in the areas of administration, monitoring of expenditure and human resources. Support is specific to the Major Crime Unit, Scientific Support Unit, Armed Policing Unit, Roads Policing Unit, Civil Contingencies Unit, Dog Unit and Operational Support Unit.

This vacancy is a temporary 12-month contract providing maternity cover.

The post holder will work as part of a team within the JPS Business Co-ordination Unit (BCU), providing first line management to JPS Business Support staff.

The successful candidate may occasionally be required to travel across Beds, Cambs and Herts but the permanent base location will be Cambridgeshire Police Headquarters which is where the majority of the BCU and command team are based.

The post holder will be required to undertake a range of responsibilities, including (but not limited to);

Manage the preparation, monitoring and analysis of the budgets for the delegated areas and analyse financial information to enable forecasting and planning. Highlight and challenge any areas of discrepancy through regular reconciliation of budget positions.

Provide leadership and supervision, to support and motivate business support staff. Ensure their continued personal development. Identify opportunities to make savings and improve cost efficiency across services.

Act as the single point of contact for the tactical action of a broad spectrum of issues which may include assets and equipment, estates, health and safety, IT/Comms and contracts to ensure that operational and business needs are met.

Promote the highest standards of business ethos within the administrative function of JPS, ensuring the most effective use of resources.

Drive business improvement initiatives and support organisational change. As such the successful candidate will have the desired qualities;

Business qualification or equivalent experience.

At least 2 years’ experience in a middle management role with specific responsibilities in the areas of financial and staff management.

Substantial and broad administrative experience.

Experience of budget preparation, management and reporting.

Extensive knowledge of using IT systems e.g. spreadsheets to an advanced level.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels.
