Senior Human Resources Officer

As an experienced and credible HR professional, you will act as the HR lead for designated business areas, including the Contact Resolution Centre, Operations Department, Protecting Vulnerable Command and Crime Command, across Devon and Cornwall Police. This includes many varied and complex operational service areas such as emergency call handling, custody, firearms, police dogs and public protection.

You will be a confident and dynamic individual, able to build and sustain effective partnerships with managers at all levels including senior leaders and provide high-quality, pragmatic HR advice to Senior Leadership Teams. The role requires strong influencing and negotiation skills, alongside the ability to communicate effectively when managing complex and sensitive matters.

You will be responsible for delivering professional HR case management support, coaching and advising line managers (police officers and police staff) on a wide range of complex people management issues. These will include probation, attendance, equality matters, grievances, capability and disciplinary cases, up to and including dismissal. Where required, you will represent the Force at Employment Tribunals.

This is a demanding and varied role, requiring a solution-focused approach to complex people management issues, ensuring outcomes align with Force policies, procedures and employment legislation. You will provide case management direction and professional support to HR Officers and line-manage Assistant HR Officers.

The role requires a high level of personal resilience, sound professional judgement and the ability to work independently, managing multiple and competing priorities. Some travel across the Force area will be required.

You should be able to demonstrate significant experience in a senior generalist HR role, supported by excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to operate credibly within a complex organisation.

Please be advised that interviews will take place on Wednesday 11th February 2026. There will also be a role-related assessment, details of which will be provided on the day.
