Legal Services provides a critical support service for officers and staff at all levels in GMP. The Branch is made up of circa 50 legally qualified and non-qualified staff split across six units, including four dedicated legal units that specialise in Operational Policing, Civil Litigation, Employment and Misconduct, and Public and Regulatory.

Members of our teams provide legal advice across the above areas and our key partners in ensuring GMP re-establishes itself as a leading police force who fight and reduce crime, keeps people safe and cares for victims. We are looking for a Paralegal to join our Employment and Misconduct Unit. The work that you do will include:

 

  • Handling pre-litigated work in the form of ACAS Early Conciliation
  • Supporting solicitors in the team with conducting defences to Employment Tribunal claims. This includes support with all stages of litigation from the receipt of a claim, right through to conclusion
  • Assisting with the provision of advice to the Force in order to minimise exposure to risk.
  • Legal research

    You will be a confident and effective communicator with an understanding of employment related legislation and will be capable of fulfilling all elements of the role, You will always act in the best interests of the Chief Constable and will demonstrate awareness of the wider impact of your decision-making. You may also be called upon to assist with police misconduct cases. No prior experience of this area of work is required.
