- MM / Chief Inspector Promotion 2026 - Lancashire Constabulary

Lancashire Constabulary are looking to recruit numerous Chief Inspectors across both Detective and Uniformed portfolios. Applications are invited from substantive Inspectors for promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector and substantive Chief Inspectors looking for a lateral move to Lancashire Constabulary.

Application and Interview Process 

As part of this process, there will be Familiarisation Day on Tuesday 13th January 2026, 13:00pm - 16:00pm at Hutton Headquarters or via MS TEAMs. This is for both internal and external candidates to attend and it is a great opportunity to meet our Chief Officer Team and Lancashire Constabulary Staff, to see how the force operates and learn about our Chief Inspector roles.

All submitted applications will be shortlisted on Friday 30th January 2026. Those successful following the paper sift will be invited to undertake a face-to-face briefing and interview at Hutton Headquarters on either Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th or Thursday 12th February 2026.

Internal applications must seek approval from their BCU Commander / Head of Department on their suitability to apply for promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector. The form can be found by clicking the above attachment. This can be submitted by email to Promotions@lancashire.police.uk but must contain BCU Commanders / Department Heads confirmation.

Officers on Secondment will need to gain approval from their substantive BCU Commander/ Head of Department.

Should any Officer not be supported and wish to appeal this decision; the form still needs to be returned along with your rationale for appealing the decision. This will be considered by the Head of HR and DCC Mackenzie.

Candidates will be assessed against Competency Values Framework (CVF) Level 3, Senior Leader / Executive throughout this process (application form, briefing, and interview).

Vetting

All appointments will be subject to enhanced MV & SC vetting.

All internal applicants will also be subject to undergo PSD checks before being invited to the interview and briefing stage of the process.

Key dates

Advert Close: Monday 26th January 2026 at 10am

Familiarisation Day: Tuesday 13th January 2026, 13:00pm - 16:00pm, at Hutton Headquarters or via MS Teams (Internal and external candidates to attend)

Shortlisting: Friday 30th January 2026  - candidates to be notified of results via the online application portal.
