Description of Department:
Learning & Development (L&OD) is the main training department of the City of London Police. The department is staffed by police officers and support staff, fulfilling a variety of roles. All of the mandatory training is provided by the department as well as ad hoc non-specialised training. The Driver Training Unit is part of L&D. All police officers in the department also have to fulfil front line roles when required to do so by the organisation.
Purpose of the Role:
In this role you will be developing the planning, preparation and delivery of courses and training packages within the Force Training Plan and as directed by the Head of Force Training. As a Driving Instructor you will work very closely as part of a team of Instructors, having supervisory, motivational and developmental responsibilities for the various driving courses delivered.The post also requires the successful candidates to provide police officers and police support staff with instruction and practical demonstrations of police driving techniques, from Response upwards, as per the Police Driving Specification Programme.
You will be responsible for the preparation, design and delivery of all aspects of Police driver training, including updating curriculum documents, learning outcomes and training portfolios.
Promoting and developing the learning of students, will be part of your role and you will need to have extensive knowledge of Roadcraft, Highway Code, any relevant APP’s, Force Policies and legislation.
Essential Criteria
- Be serving in a Home Office force.
- Be a current Police Advanced driver trainer.
- Hold a recognised Police Driver Trainers Course qualification and be able to deliver train the trainer courses to develop new staff.
- Be an accredited Advanced driver trainer and Initial Phase Pursuit (IPP) trainer.
- Be operationally competent to drive at Advanced standards.
- DVSA ADI qualified.
- Level 4 trainer and assessor qualified including SFJ, CETLS, TEP etc.
- Have a good level of knowledge and understanding of the College Of Policing driver training portfolios.
- Be able to evidence excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, with the ability to produce concise and well-reasoned reports with appropriate recommendations when required.
Desirable
- Level 2 NVQ in Health and Safety (IOSH)
- Have knowledge and experience of Roads Policing.
- TPAC qualified.
- Protected convoy driving qualified.
- Advanced motorcycle qualified.
- VIP protection motorcycle escorts qualified
Applicants will be required to provide evidence of their qualifications if invited to interview.
The application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
