ERSOU - ROCU - PC/DC - Blockchain & Digital Assets Investigator - CART

The ERSOU Economic Crime Command’s nascent Crypto Asset Recovery Team (CART) is seeking a Detective Constable to serve as a ‘Blockchain and Digital Asset Investigator’ who will assist in the delivery of this new capability.

The purpose of this team is to explore new and emerging opportunities for Police to target, tackle and disrupt crypto-related proceeds of crime.

To do this we’ve built a team of specialists to pool critical skills under one command. We need a blend of free/innovative thinking (not wedded to dogmatic approaches), an eye for detail and proven understanding of crypto. This person is unafraid of complexity (particularly when dealing with large data sets) but disciplined enough (stubborn?) to lead others in the relentless pursuit of criminals, who are intent on hiding their ill-gotten gains.

More specifically, while working in close collaboration with all team members, your role will be to identify and follow crypto asset trails to map OCG finances and, ultimately, assist in their seizure. This may be physically (at scenes/warrants) or remotely, via IPA applications for data, supporting Production Order applications or utilising Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) relationships.

This is a secondment to a newly stood-up team, which has received Home Office funding until April 2027. Further funding and the continuance of the capability beyond is currently being scoped.

Secondment arrangements will need to be discussed on a case-by-case basis depending on your home force and their need to temporarily back-fill your substantive post. You are encouraged to discuss your interest in this opportunity with your line manager.

The typical working week will be Mon-Fri, 40hrs p/week. 0800-1600hrs will be the standard working hours (no shifts). By negotiation there is the opportunity to work condensed hours or under a flexible working agreement. That said, there will be an expectation of flexibility according to the exigencies of operational need.

The role will be based within the Eastern Region footprint, with flexibility for agile working. Individual places of work will be agreed with line managers depending on the role. The Team will periodically co-locate/gather for training and/or deployment purposes.
