Job Title: Policy & Priorities Manager
Salary: The starting salary is £59,839, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £56,911 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £69,342. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: London and Hybrid – 3 days (60%) of your time you will work from a Met location, of which at least 2 days a week will be at your base location in New Scotland Yard
The Met’s Strategy function is responsible for providing the Commissioner and Met leaders with expert insight on strategic matters, supporting them to lead the organisation and make informed decisions.
Within Strategy, you will be part of the small, high performing team where you will work to provide insight on some of the Met’s most important challenges, and to support the organisation make progress against them.
Policy and Priorities Team
The Policy and Priorities team support the development of MPS internal policies, strategies and plans and provide advice to Chief Officers on external legislative and policy opportunities. The team also manage engagement with the London Policing Board and its two Committees: the People and Culture Committee and the Performance and Finance Delivery Committee, on behalf of the Met’s Management Board. We are the Met’s lead team for all activity related to the London Policing Board ensuring we deliver high level outputs from working with subject matter experts to write papers, advise on the internal Met governance route for paper approvals, to taking on responsibility for completing actions.
Purpose of the role:
Working to the Band A Head of Policy and Priorities, this role will be part of a team of high-performing, ambitious and inclusive existing policy and strategy professionals to make a real difference and develop their careers within a policing environment.
You will work with internal and external stakeholders in policy formulation and lead on the provision of policy advice. You will also work to support the effective running of the London Policing Board and it’s two Committees, drafting papers for meetings and ensuring Met leaders are briefed in a timely and appropriate way.
Key responsibilities:
- Produce high quality products for the MPS to present at the London Policing Board.
- Provide expert policy advice, to support effective, informed and coordinated decision-making by the Head of Policy and Deputy Director of Reform, Policy, and Governance.
- Work flexibly with colleagues across the Met on high priority policy issues and London Policing Board areas of focus, developing evidence-based policy positions and producing reports.
- Proactively seek to determine the challenges, consequences, and opportunities of proposed changes in Government policy and formulate a clear Met position.
- Support governance an briefing processes as required, including formal and informal support for the London Policing Board.
- Work closely with MOPAC on London Policing Board strategic engagement
- There is an expectation for team members to work flexibly across teams in the Directorate, as required.
