Roads Policing Team - NSIP's Roads Policing Team (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project)

Suffolk Constabulary is looking to recruit a designated AIL (Abnormal Indivisible Loads) Team to escort abnormal loads relating to NSIP’S (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects) within the county.

Being a rural county, Suffolk’s Road network presents challenges for the movement of abnormal loads. As there are a number of NSIP’s being planned, there will be an increase of abnormal load movements. The locations of these projects are spread across the county, with the majority relating to energy. Pick up and drop off locations will be in Suffolk and neighbouring counties.

We are seeking applications from officers to join a Roads Policing Team specifically dedicated to these NSIP’s.

Suffolk Constabulary is a highly regarded police force, that has consistently received good inspection reports. We are innovative, forward thinking and take an evidence-based approach to policing. We are proud of our workforce and equally proud to police the diverse county of Suffolk. The county benefits from vibrant towns to some of Britain’s most sought-after coastal resorts part of a coastline stretching for 50 miles. There is something for everyone, no matter what your and your family’s interests are; live music festivals, historic towns, idyllic coastal towns and plenty of beautiful places for outdoor activities.

The principal role of the NSIP’s team will be to safely escort AILs that are connected to the projects in and around Suffolk and Neighbouring forces. In addition to the movement of AILs, the team will focus on road safety linked to the increased road related demand created by the projects by targeting ‘Fatal 4’ offences.

The team will be required to work a shift pattern made up of early shifts with an emphasis on flexibility where required.

The team will operate out of Police Headquarters in Martlesham and Lowestoft Police station. It is envisaged that with the staggered commencement dates of the projects that the team will be working with several projects for several years. Once the projects have been completed there will be opportunities to re deploy within the Roads and Armed Policing Team. For reassurance our current Sizewell C project is 12 years.

We are specifically looking for Police Motorcyclists with a passion for roads policing.
