Internal Quality Assurer
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Learning and Development Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) to join our team and support the Quality Assurance Manager in delivering high-quality policing qualifications and training. You will play a key role in maintaining robust quality assurance processes across our learning programmes, working closely with Assessors, the wider Learning & Development (L&D) department and partner departments across the organisation.
The role involves promoting a culture of continuous improvement, supporting teaching and assessment staff and ensuring all delivery meets the standards set by awarding bodies, end-point assessment organisations and national policing frameworks. You will also deputise for the Quality Assurance Manager when required, including supervising the assessment team and attending L&D Senior Leadership meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and apply assessment and internal verification processes with the QA Manager, ensuring compliance with QAA, College of Policing and awarding-body standards.
- Oversee the quality and consistency of assessments across classroom and operational environments.
- Develop, implement and maintain Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) systems, proactively identifying and driving improvements.
- Support the QA Manager in liaising with external verification bodies and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders.
- Act as a subject matter expert in policing IQA requirements, advising senior leaders and aligning delivery with national frameworks and occupational standards.
- Keep up to date with legislation, qualification standards and industry developments, sharing updates across the L&D department.
- Train, coach and mentor assessors, ensuring they meet qualification and CPD requirements.
- Lead and coordinate standardisation activities to support consistent assessment decisions and operational competence.
- Manage IQA documentation and provide expert guidance on assessment quality and assurance processes.
- Monitor learning and assessment delivery, ensuring learners achieve the required knowledge, skills and behaviours, while supporting learner welfare during operational assessment.
Why This Role Matters
This role is central to ensuring our officers and staff receive high-quality, credible and compliant training that prepares them for the realities of policing. As an IQA, you will safeguard the integrity of our qualifications, strengthen the capability of our assessors, and ensure our programmes reflect national standards and best practice. Your work directly impacts the competence, confidence and professionalism of those serving our communities.
What We're Looking For
We’re looking for a quality-driven, collaborative professional with:
- Strong experience in assessment and internal quality assurance, ideally within policing or a regulated learning environment.
- A sound understanding of national qualification frameworks, assessment standards and awarding body requirements.
- The ability to coach, support and challenge assessors constructively.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and maintaining high standards across learning and assessment.
If you’re committed to raising standards and making a meaningful impact on policing education, we’d be delighted to receive your application.
