This role is open to all Police Staff / external candidates who meet the essential criteria of the person spec, regardless of current grade.

About the team
The Information Management Services department has a strong, integrated information management vision in which data analytics plays a big part.The department is focused on supporting the various information needs of the Force and provides services to support public access to information, information security and assurance as well as records and data quality functions.
In addition, the department fosters a culture of specialism and support for front line policing systems, including national, regional and local systems.The unique nature of the Force and its diverse responsibilities make it a great place to work and a place to develop with like-minded people working together to keep our community safe from harm.
About the role
This role is within the data lab function which acts as the subject matter experts for data extraction, transform and load, increasing the utilisation of data assets across the force and the use of the analytical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Support organisational performance management and decision making through insightful research and analysis. Improve the understanding of current and future demand using available business tools and analytical techniques to better inform resource allocation and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Collate data and gather information relevant to research, reviews, audits and projects using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research techniques and business applications to analyse and identify performance trends and organisational implications, ensuring statistical accuracy is valid (extraction of data from; force systems, process discovery engagement, activity analysis, thematic sampling, questionnaires, etc.; Analysis to include; cost benefit, statistical process control, forecasting, descriptive, exploratory, inferential, predictive, causal etc.).
- Work in collaboration with other organisations and academic bodies to identify and capture best practice and integrate into the organisation to provide an improved evidence-based service that is efficient and effective. Prepare and contribute in the design, development and delivery of business improvements and innovation throughout both the force and its strategic partner areas.
- Build and maintain relationships with the wider organisation and external partners, ensuring the analytical work reflects organisational and partnership requirements to contribute to an improved service delivery.
- Maintain, develop, and champion the business toolkits and analytical techniques ensuring they meet the needs the organisation, support programmes of work and offer value for money (demand and resource modelling, power BI).
Requirements
- Knowledge of policing issues impacting upon the organisation and other partner agencies.
- Knowledgeable in the principles for the effective management of a project through to the successful achievement of planned business benefits.
- Knowledge of National Standards for Incident Recording (NSIR) and Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR).
- Experience in using SPSS or other statistical packages.
- Experience in GIS/Mapping Software packages
- Experience in SQL, SSIS, VBA and power BI

Selection Process
As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills, and knowledge demonstrate your ability to meet the person specification of the role.
The application and interview will be tested under Level 2 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered.

Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview, anticipated to be held week commencing 12th January 2026.
