Full Time, Fixed term (12-month maternity cover) and 6-month bank for any permanent vacancies.  MV & SC Vetted required.

The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) is looking for an Intelligence Development Officer keen to progress their career as part of our Operations Team.

The Operations Team tackles some of the most harmful or highest threat organised crime groups in the region. The team develops intelligence, carries out operations and follows investigations through to prosecution, working with other capabilities across the ROCU.

You will be part of an intelligence unit embedded within the Operations team, working closely with researchers, analysts, and investigators. You will be involved in developing and evaluating intelligence, making assessments of the threat, risk, harm, vulnerabilities and opportunities which exist and identifying gaps. As an Intelligence Development Officer, you will manage the dissemination of and the assessment of intelligence product, support reactive and proactive development of intelligence, and fulfil an integral role within the SWROCU Operations room when the team are deployed by providing live time intelligence support.

Due to the nature of the work that you will be engaged in, it is anticipated that some flexibility regarding core hours is required for this role.

SWROCU is a collaboration of police officers and police staff from the five South West regional forces. We’re part of a national network of nine ROCUs covering England and Wales.

We have more than 20 capabilities that staff and officers work in to Pursue offenders, Protect and Prepare individuals and organisations, and Prevent people from engaging in serious and organised crime.

Our capabilities are here to advise, to assist, or to fully adopt investigations.

We work with local forces and national partners to target and disrupt criminals posing the greatest risk of Serious and Organised Criminality (SOC). This includes offenders involved in cyber threats, economic crime, drug conspiracies, modern slavery and human trafficking, and child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Skills, experience and qualifications required

Essential:

  • Vetted MV & SC level
  • Computer literate  
  • Have experience of communicating effectively both orally and in writing  
  • Have experience of report writing  
  • Have experience of dealing with people both face to face and over the phone  
  • Hold a full current driving licence or able to travel around the force area using alternative transport  
  • Knowledge of Intelligence processes  
  • Previous experience of working within a law enforcement environment. 
  • Experience of handling sensitive information.  
  • Hold IPP (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme) accreditation or willing to gain it.

Vetting and safeguarding

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a five-year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last five years.

Police Barred and Advisory lists

Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the police for a minimum of five years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or three years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.
