Commander - Operations and Security

Commander - Operations and Security

City of London Police is looking for an exceptional individual to lead operational policing in one of the highest profile financial and business districts in the world. This is a critical leadership role for a candidate who goes the extra mile and embodies our values of professionalism, integrity and compassion.

The role of Commander (Assistant Chief Constable equivalent) is key to achieving our vision of being one of the most trusted and inclusive police services in the country and keeping the City of London safe. You will be part of a small and dynamic chief officer team driving strategic and cultural change across the organisation and national policing landscape.

The role has a varied portfolio from local crime and anti-social behaviour issues, to the public order and counter terrorism response, and national protective security through Project Servator. The successful candidate will have wide ranging experience of operational law enforcement with a proven track record of working at a strategic level to deliver high performing police services, and building effective partnerships.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of policing in the historic and globally significant Square Mile.

Eligibility

Applications are invited from Commanders / Assistant Chief Constables, and Superintendents and Chief Superintendents who have either successfully completed the Executive Leadership Programme (ELP) (cohorts 1-3), or passed the development centre for cohort 4 of the ELP, with a confirmed place on ELP cohort 4. Substantive appointment will be based on successful completion of the ELP (in line with College of Policing guidance). Applicants must have also successfully completed the A7 course, required for all operational roles in the Chief Officer team. If a candidate has not yet completed the A7 course, they will be eligible for temporary appointment only, then made substantive upon completion of the course.

The City of London Police is committed to equality of opportunities and continuously strive for inclusivity within our Force. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, particularly from those who are disabled, have long-term health conditions, and/or are neurodivergent, those with Black, Asian and other Minority Ethnic backgrounds, female candidates, and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
