Criminal Justice is a core function of policing and the corner stone for achieving fair prosecutions.

You will perform the Witness Care Officer role as part of a cluster based Criminal Justice team.

Each Cluster will have a team of Witness Care Officers located at a central CJ Hub working as part of a wider CJ team covering all aspects of CJ work including file check/build, bail management, typing/admin and witness care.

The role of a Witness Care Officer is an agile role, based at one of four Criminal Justice cluster hubs. The Witness Care Officer provides a single point of contact for victims and witnesses to keep them updated and provide practical support to help them if they need to give evidence at court; helping to raise public confidence in the Criminal Justice System.

(NB. Cases managed by specialist police units i.e. Family Support and protected witnesses will be excluded from this process).

The post holder will be required to ensure trials are effective by proactive management of prosecution witnesses from the point of charge of a defendant through to completion of a case. The role involves liaising with other Criminal Justice Agencies and support services to provide effective management of and support to victims and witnesses.

In order to be successful in your application for this role you will have previous experience carrying out duties/tasks relevant to the post, including making and receiving telephone calls and recording the details of those calls, to demonstrate effective communication and IT skills and the ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm and professional.

The post holder will have a sound knowledge of Criminal Justice Processes and an understanding of the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime and the Witness Charter.
