Job Title: Communications Supervisor
Salary: The basic starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928, a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000. On top of this you will also receive a 20% shift disturbance allowance (15% during training).
Location: Bow, Hendon, Lambeth
Training: The training period for new staff will be 14 weeks, with a shorter bespoke course for existing staff. Annual leave is not permitted during the training course.
Met Command and Control (MetCC) provides London with its police response service, handling some 13,000 emergency and non-emergency phone calls and 12,000 interactions via our digital platforms 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Specialist police communications support is also provided for some 500 large-scale public events that take place across the capital each year. Naturally, this means we have a fast-paced dynamic environment, where no two days will be the same.

You may be considering joining the MPS and bringing to the organisation - people management skills that will enable you to work within one of the largest Emergency Control room operations within the UK - one where our people provide assistance to Londoners at the fore of the frontline.
You may be a current supervisor within the MPS and would welcome the opportunity to join MetCC where your existing Line Manager role draws on multiple skill sets - support for our people, risk assessment in a fast-paced environment and an opportunity to train up and take on new challenges.
You may be already working within our MPS control rooms and are considering your next development steps - taking your existing Operator, Despatcher or Pan London Operator experience and aligning these with supporting your colleagues as Team Leader on a daily basis in an environment that you know well.
A Communications Supervisor working across the operational floors will ensure that our people are well-led, equipped and supported, championing difference and diversity of thought to create an environment to thrive in order to serve the public.
A Communications Supervisor will be responsible for driving performance, maintaining a culture of learning and development, focusing on professionalism, welfare and attendance, to improve the organisational overall efficiency and effectiveness in providing a response to the public.
A Communications Supervisor will have direct line management of a team within their designated centre within First contact/Despatch and will report to an operational Duty Officer.
Successful applicants will be expected to manage escalations, implement decision making and manage and support their teams within an ever-changing operational environment, putting the public at the fore.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing and developing a team of Police Officers and Police Staff including colleague welfare, performance, attendance management and professional standards
- Supporting operational colleagues across all teams, with enquires around grading of calls, incident handling and identifying appropriate resources. This includes an effective hand-over during shift changeover
- Monitoring compliance, complaint handling, evidence provision and misconduct
- Identifying Risk, Harm, Opportunity and Threat, ensuring incidents are being managed / re-graded and compliant.
- Adapting to changing situations and make sound and justifiable operational decisions to ensure the safety of colleagues, the public and the Communities within
- Manage Borough Command Unit (BCU) resources, through regular liaison with BCU Operations Manager, including scheduled daily meetings to identify resourcing and staffing issues.
- Support the MetCC Duty Officer in their decision making and managing operational needs
- Ensure compliance with and correct closure of incident records.
- Assist in the implementation and management of Business Continuity and other critical technology failure when required.
