HP - Community Panel Volunteer

Role: Community Panel Volunteer
Department: Community Safety Unit 
Location: Hull 
Hours:  minimum 4 hours per week (negotiable)
Contract: Permanent

Make a real difference in your community by joining our Youth Justice Panels as a volunteer! These panels bring together young people who have received a Referral Order, their parents or carers, and sometimes the victims of their actions. As a panel member, you’ll play a key role in helping young people understand the impact of their behaviour and work with them to create a personalized plan that encourages positive choices for the future. This is a chance to use your voice and experience to support accountability, growth, and change.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Motivate and encourage young people to engage positively, reflect on their actions, and develop a sense of responsibility.
•    Encourage open conversations with the young person, their family, and sometimes the victim.
•    Represent the community’s voice, promoting fairness, accountability, and support.
•    Record and report panel outcomes.

Essential Criteria
•    An interest in working directly with young people.
•    Willingness to undertake training.
•    Motivated and enthusiastic.
•    Ability to form effective working relationships with young people.
•    Good communication skills. 
•    Basic knowledge of safeguarding. 
•    Basic knowledge of issues affecting young people.
•    Basic understanding of data protection and confidentiality


Desirable criteria 
•    Knowledge of childcare legislation
•    NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant qualification
•    Basic IT skills

Pre – Employment Checks and Eligibility: 
•    Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria of at least 3 years continuous residency in the UK to apply for roles with Humberside Police.
•    Successful candidates will undergo a vetting procedure pre-requisite of employment. (Please note, with holding any information asked by the vetting department, may delay the vetting procedure, or result in your vetting been refused and the offer of employment been withdrawn)
•    Tattoo’s will be reviewed as a part of the recruitment process to ensure we maintain a level of professional standards and to make sure the images do not cause offence or are unacceptable.
