Job Title: Thematic Lead: Efficiency
Salary: The starting salary is £74,680, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £71,752 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £79,042 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Job Purpose:
To provide expert financial analysis and thematic insight into the Metropolitan Police Service’s (MPS) efficiency planning and delivery.
The role supports integrated business planning by assessing performance against efficiency targets, modelling future scenarios, and contributing to value-for-money decision-making.
Key Result Areas
- Deliver high-quality financial modelling and insight to support efficiency planning across the MPS, ensuring outputs contribute to long-term affordability and organisational sustainability.
- Coordinate the classification, tracking and reporting of efficiency initiatives across multiple years, supporting the Spending Review framework and enabling a clear line of sight to outcomes.
- Monitor and evaluate in-year performance against efficiency targets, producing actionable insight and presenting risk-based options to inform business decisions.
- Conduct deep-dive analysis into specific areas of opportunity or concern to identify efficiency opportunities that protect service delivery and contribute to strategic priorities.
- Draft reports and briefings that articulate the MPS’s efficiency position for both internal and external stakeholders, contributing to a shared understanding of progress and future requirements.
- Use benchmarking and external comparators to assess relative efficiency performance and build cost models that support decision-making across business areas.
- Support the governance and planning processes that embed accountability for efficiency across the organisation, promoting consistent and transparent delivery practices.

- Contributes to strategic planning by providing detailed financial analysis and modelling for efficiency reviews
- Supports efficiency tracking and risk management, influencing decisions taken by senior finance and corporate leads
- Operates with day-to-day autonomy over workload, delivery approach, and quality assurance of task outputs
- Shaped by budget cycles, corporate priorities and statutory or legal requirements associated with policing funding
- Does not hold final sign-off authority but plays a significant role in shaping options for consideration

- Staff Oversight: No formal line management; responsible for tasking and quality oversight of Band M and Band K1 contributors
