Police Sergeant / Detective Sergeant

Grade: - Guernsey Police Sergeant - £57,167 - £64,175 per annum, together with the Hampshire Allowance of £1,623 per annum.

The States of Guernsey are looking to recruit Police Sergeants / Detective Sergeants to join their teams within Bailiwick of Guernsey Law Enforcement.

Sergeants provide effective daily supervision, guidance and support to officers and staff and co-ordinate the policing response to both emergency situations, critical incidents and on-going investigations. The post holder will also undertake the role of custody officer in accordance with PPACE and the Codes of Practice for the safe custody of persons in Police detention.

A core requirement of the role is to encourage, support, lead and advise staff within their area of responsibility, quality assuring their activities, assisting with their personal development and improving their professional competence and confidence.

This role co-ordinates and monitors policing activity to uphold the law, enable public safety and build public confidence in policing. This is done in line with legal frameworks and policy guidelines.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying policing needs within the Bailiwick and taking forward issues in line with the Service Delivery Plan.

Law Enforcement Vetting:

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Law Enforcement Vetting e-Form. If you are successful after interview, a copy of your passport and your Guernsey Social Security Number or UK National Insurance number will be forwarded to the Guernsey Vetting Unit by HR; please ensure this information is entered / uploaded onto your job application. A link to access your Law Enforcement Vetting e-Form will then be sent to you via email by the Guernsey Vetting Unit.

In order to satisfy residency criteria, you need to have been resident in the UK or Guernsey for a period of 3 years. The calculation of the period of time refers to the period immediately before an application is made and not any other period or accumulation of time spent in the UK or Guernsey. Convictions likely to be considered relevant to this post include crimes involving Theft, Dishonesty and Fraud.

This role offers off-Island candidates an 8-year Long Term Employment Permit (see details below). This permit will also enable candidates to bring immediate family members with them who will be permitted to work on the Island in any sector. There are also good schools on Island for those candidates looking to bring their families with them.

Appointment to this role will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks being received and some candidates will be required to undertake enhanced and additional pre-employment checks.
