Joint Independent Audit Committee - Member Opportunities

The Joint Independent Audit Committee is recruiting new Member(s)

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire and the Chief Constable have an established Joint Independent Audit Committee (JIAC). The Audit Committee’s main roles are:

  • To evaluate overall corporate governance arrangements put in place by the Commissioner and the Chief Constable and to make recommendations for improvement.
  • To consider internal and external audit reports.
  • To review the draft statements of accounts and annual governance statements prior to publication, considering whether appropriate accounting policies have been followed and making any recommendations as appropriate.

The Audit Committee is comprised of five members; one Chair and four Independent Members, who are all independent of the PCC, Chief Constable and Lincolnshire Police. We are now seeking applications for the role of a committee member, from individuals who are objective, show independent thinking and can initiate constructive and independent challenge.

Experience in a role involving scrutiny and review of governance and/or finance is essential.

Applicants must have an understanding of the principles of change and risk management, with an awareness of current accounting issues. Ideally applicants will be a member of a Chartered Accountancy Body although not essential. We currently have one substantive role but may appoint more than one person if appropriately experienced/qualified people are available.

Appointments will be for an initial period of four years. It is anticipated that the Committee will meet formally four times per year plus one workshop on the statement of accounts. The role will also involve occasional attendance at liaison meetings and briefings. You will receive a basic annual allowance of £1,500 plus reasonable expenses will be payable for attendance at meetings.

Interviews will be held in the following 2 weeks, at Lincolnshire Police Headquarters, Nettleham, Lincoln or online via Microsoft Teams. Successful applicants will be subject to vetting prior to formal offer of the role.
