HP - Switchboard Operator Volunteer

Role: Switchboard Volunteer

Department: Force Control Room

Location: Melton - East Riding of Yorkshire

Hours:  8 Hours per week (Flexible)

Contract: Permanent

Humberside Police are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join the Force Control Room team at our Melton 2 location. In this role, you’ll be the first point of contact for members of the public, answering incoming calls, assessing their nature, and transferring them to the appropriate department or officer.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into police operations while making a meaningful contribution to public safety.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Force Control Room (FCR) by accurately directing calls and sharing relevant information.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, handling sensitive information in line with GDPR regulations.
  • Identify and escalate any urgent matters to your Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for prompt action.
  • Demonstrate sound judgement by recognising when issues need to be referred to senior staff for further handling.

Pre – Employment Checks and Eligibility:

  • Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria of at least 3 years continuous residency in the UK to apply for roles with Humberside Police.
  • Successful candidates will undergo a vetting procedure pre-requisite of employment. (Please note, with holding any information asked by the vetting department, may delay the vetting procedure, or result in your vetting been refused and the offer of employment been withdrawn)
  • Tattoo’s will be reviewed as a part of the recruitment process to ensure we maintain a level of professional standards and to make sure the images do not cause offence or are unacceptable.

It is not likely that closing dates will be extended, other than in exceptional circumstances and would need to be with the permission of the Recruitment Manager and Line Manager of the role.

The Recruitment Manager can authorise to close any vacancy before the closing date stated on the advert.
