Are you passionate about vehicles and eager to learn new skills? Do you want to play a vital role in supporting your local Police force? Cheshire Constabulary is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Fleet Services team as an Apprentice Vehicle Technician.

This role is on a temporary basis until 31/03/2029

About the Role

As an Apprentice Vehicle Technician, you will work alongside experienced professionals within our modern workshops, gaining hands-on experience maintaining, servicing, and repairing our diverse fleet of police vehicles. From daily patrol cars to specialised response units, you will help ensure every vehicle is safe, reliable, and ready for action.

Cheshire Constabulary Fleet Services provide and maintain a diverse fleet of nearly 850 vehicles including cars, vans, motorbikes and boats which together clock up over 9 million miles a year.

A small team of highly skilled and enthusiastic individuals keeps this fleet of vehicles on the road as can be seen in the Series 1 of the Dave TV programme “Cop Car Workshop”. 

The fleet support team is based at Cheshire Constabulary Headquarters in Winsford, and we are looking for 2 dynamic individuals to join the Vehicle Workshop team as Apprentice Vehicle Technicians.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist in the routine maintenance, service, and repair of a wide range of police vehicles
  • Learn how to carry out service, maintenance & repair (SMR) safely under the supervision of qualified technicians
  • Support the preparation of vehicles for operational use, including safety checks and cleaning
  • Work with a variety of vehicle systems, tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times
  • Document work completed and report any concerns to the Fleet Supervisor
  • Attend training sessions and complete coursework as part of the apprenticeship programme
  • Take responsibility for your learning journey, gathering evidence & managing your portfolio.

What We're Looking For

  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and pride in your work
  • A self-motivator who can channel their initiative into identifying what needs doing next
  • Basic understanding of health and safety in the workplace
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths are desirable
  • Full UK driving licence (or working towards) preferred but not essential
