Vehicle Fleet Engineer

Vehicle Fleet Engineer

Location: North Wales Police Fleet Department, Unit 34, St Asaph Business Park, St Asaph, Denbighshire, LL17 0JA

Our vision is to support North Wales Police in meeting its objectives and priorities by providing fit for purpose and appropriate converted vehicles that are safe to use for our Officers and Staff, as well as providing transport options that support decarbonisation and sustainability policies.   We strive for a fleet that is safer, smarter and cleaner.

North Wales Police has an exciting opportunity for a skilled and dedicated Vehicle Fleet Engineer to join our team based St Asaph.  As a Fleet Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring the vehicles and conversion solutions are safe and comply with legislation and regulations and that processes are maintained, developed, and implemented.

Our vehicles are purchased direct from the vehicle manufacturer and modified to carry people and equipment in a demanding but exiting environment.    Guns/Dogs/Detainees and Drones are all examples of some of the most challenging requirements, which require a technical solution and the right vehicle to ensure our Officers and Staff reach their destination safely without delay.

The Fleet engineer will lead and deliver on transport and fleet related projects. This includes an annual replacement programme of between 80-100 assets which are converted in house or via an outsourced converter, as well as in life projects to maximise the efficiency and capability of vehicles throughout their lifecycle.  The Fleet Engineer will be expected to engage with internal users to document requirements and create role specifications that will ultimately be used to deliver a fully converted police vehicle.

A degree in an automotive or engineering related field is an essential requirement for this post, however due to the unique nature of the field of work, previous experience as a Fleet Engineer is not considered essential as we seek to recruit the most suitable candidate that we can support and develop into the role.

We are looking for a confident and effective communicator that is process driven and has a keen interest in vehicles, vehicle technology, and alternative fuelled vehicles as we develop our zero emission strategies and evolve how the Fleet Department interacts with the wider organisation.

If you are interested in this role and have any questions, please reach out to our Fleet Manager: huw.jones@northwales.police.uk / Tel: 07979713189

Shortlisting is based on your statement in support of your application. Please ensure you evidence where possible with specific examples, of how your experience, qualifications, skills and abilities meet the minimum/special criteria and/or essential requirements for the role.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to deliver a short presentation when invited for interview.

Please familiarise yourself with the Post Profile and the Recruitment Guide before you apply as this has information to help you with your application.
