Applications are invited from both internal (Substantive PC's who are qualified Q1) and external candidates (transferee's), who are Q1 surveillance trained police officers for current vacancies on the West Yorkshire Police Serious and Organised Crime Unit.
Part of Protective Services Crime, the Precision Serious & Organised Crime Unit comprises of teams of highly skilled and trained officers who investigate serious and complex criminality. This work involves a variety of both overt and covert tactics to target organised crime threats that cause harm to the communities of West Yorkshire.
Precision SOCU has two syndicate teams that are responsible for the investigation of SOC threat, including the management and disruption of OCGs (Organised Crime Groups), Gangs, and County Line criminality. The work focusses on those that present the greatest threat, risk, and harm to the public - such as firearms, large scale drugs supply, elicit finances, and exploitation of vulnerable persons. Using our specialist skills and a range of tactics we gather evidence, securing convictions against some of the most serious offenders within West Yorkshire.
A requirement of the role is to be Q1 surveillance trained and this application is specifically targeted to those already qualified with this skillset. Appointed candidates will have the opportunity to be supported through the ‘Initial Crime Investigation Development Programme’ to become a Detective Constable if not already accredited. Beyond this, further opportunities in covert specialisms may be available. The opportunity to complete this range of training within West Yorkshire Police is unique to this department.
Due to a lack of specialist motorcyclists within the department we would also encourage those with experience of riding a motorbike and those who are already Q2 trained to apply.
The ideal candidate will display initiative, be highly motivated and have a proactive approach to the investigation of crime. You would, therefore, ideally come with experience in the investigation of serious and complex crime.
A flexible approach to this demanding role will be required. The ability to work extended tours of duty would be advantageous.
Please refer to the role profile to ensure you meet the essential criteria , and that you provide evidence of experience against the essential criteria in your application.
Closing date for applications: 8th October 2025 at 23:55 hours.
