About the role
We are currently seeking applications from experienced investigators to be part of a team within Wiltshire Police dedicated to a serious and complex crime investigation. Applications are welcomed from retired detectives and investigators with PIP1 or PIP2 qualifications. Experience of working in a major crime environment is desirable.
Successful applicants will be employed on a 12-month fixed term contract working from Calne Police Station.
The role will require the successful applicant to be proficient in the investigation of serious and complex crime. The successful applicant will be required to perform a range of roles which will include the interviewing of witnesses, suspects, gathering of evidential material, disclosure, and exhibit management.
Successful applicants will be required to assist in the preparation of evidential files for the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Coroner, or other relevant authorities. They must be able to demonstrate excellent time management, meticulous attention to detail in relation to investigations, and in the production of documents and reports.
What you will be doing
Successful applicants will be given a dedicated role within the investigation with responsibility for either investigating, disclosure, or exhibits. This is a key role investigating incidents which have a profound and lasting impact on members of the public and their families. Applicants must be able to demonstrate exceptional standards of professionalism, respect, and empathy.
In this role, your main responsibilities will be:
- Interviewing witnesses and recording evidence in accordance with the Criminal Justice Act.
- Compiling detailed written reports and statements of evidence.
- Undertaking actions as directed by the Senior Investigating Officer or Case Manager.
- Performing the role of Disclosure Officer when required.
- Performing the role of Exhibits Officer when required.
- Performing the role of Document Reader when required.
- Assisting in the preparation of prosecution or other evidential files.
- Updating manual and computer records where required for the purposes of the investigation.
About you and your experience
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- To be PIP2 accreditation or equivalent investigative training (PIP1 may also be considered for this role)
- Experience of interviewing witnesses and suspects.
- A proven investigative back
- A full and current driving licence.
In addition, you should be:
- Computer literate with experience of updating both manual and computer records.
- Experience of writing reports and statements of evidence.
- To have experience of liaising with a range of departments, agencies, and organisations
