SPA Forensic Services are the largest public sector forensic organisation in Europe 
and among the largest forensic organisations in the UK. We have over 600 highly trained and skilled scientists and staff who are committed to scientific excellence, who work with Integrity, Professionalism, and Impartiality.

Forensic Services provides the whole service from the crime scene to the court, through Search and Recovery, Analysis, and Reporting; with crucial support provided by our Infrastructure & Support, and Quality teams. This ‘integrated provision’ ensures impartiality and integrity, key to the criminal justice system.

With a longstanding commitment to quality management and accreditation to the International Standard ISO17025, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) confirmed our maintenance of accreditation earlier this year. This is the 27th consecutive year of UKAS accreditation at Forensic Services.

The performance of Forensic Services for the year of 2024/25 has remained strong with a programme of continuous improvements ongoing.

We are looking for a strategic leader within our Senior Management Team to take on the new role of Head of Forensic Business Management & Engagement. The successful postholder will build on the world leading, high-quality, value-for-money forensic provision we deliver. They will drive forward our strategic management responsibilities, building and maintaining the reputation of Forensic Services and our contribution to the criminal justice system and the people of Scotland

Assist and advise the Director in the strategic management, leadership and direction of Forensic Services in relation to Corporate Services, Infrastructure and Support provided both within Forensic Services and through service back arrangements.

To lead Forensic Services external relations function, developing and delivering a communications and engagement strategy that promotes transparency of business operations building and maintains the reputation of Forensic Services and its contribution to the criminal justice system.

Direct managerial responsibility for liaison and provision of all Business Management functionality across Forensic Services including the co-ordination of all engagement and communication with the Authority’s Board and Committee meetings.

Managing all Forensic Services Infrastructure and Support services by working with key partners and stakeholders in Forensic Services and being responsible for services supporting all operational activity.

Lead the management and development of all current operating systems in line with the Forensic Services Strategy, ensuring technological service and forensic intelligence development leads to improved Justice Outcomes in Scotland.

Management of Forensic Systems Support Team, Communications and Engagement, Productions and Logistics, Forensic Services Gateway, Business Administration, Facilities Management and all Corporate Support Activities required by Forensic Services.

Hybrid Working

SPA Forensic Services currently operates a hybrid working policy which is designed to suit the needs of both the organisation and staff.

For eligible roles this can mean that a proportion of the working week can be worked routinely from home, through discussion and agreement with your line manager.
